WINNETKA — In the final race of his high school career, swimmer Cam Barnard had nowhere to go but up.
In the state preliminaries, the Champaign Central senior qualified for the sixth — and last — position in the 100-yard butterfly at New Trier High School.

Now the Champaign Central senior will vie for a state title in the event during today’s finals at New Trier High School.
CHAMPAIGN — As Cam Barnard pulled himself out of the pool early in the season and put his hands on his knees, he wondered if the payoff was worth the exhaustion.

CHAMPAIGN — Cam Barnard reached double figures Saturday.
By qualifying in four events for the state swimming meet, the Champaign Central senior raised his career participation total at state to 12 events.
And, for the seventh year in a row, the Maroons won team honors in a 24-school boys’ sectional at Centennial High School.
