GIBSON CITY — Closed since November, Railside Golf Course is expected to open soon under new ownership.
Gibson City resident Guy Percy said Tuesday that he and a group of other investors are readying to sign a purchase agreement — perhaps as early as this week — with the course’s owner, Doug Brucker of Sibley, who had contemplated turning the 197-acre course into farmland.
CHAMPAIGN — It was a painful sight for Yoshi Hayasaki.
He didn’t know whether it was an issue with confidence that comes and goes during a given round of golf, a problem with technique or a mixture of both. But every time his daughter, Champaign Central junior Mia, approached a putt of 4 feet or less at the Class 2A state golf tournament last month, he grew nervous.
Why she’s Coach of the Year: The veteran golf coach guided a relatively young team to the Class 1A Normal Community Regional title with a score of 381. While the Sabers missed out on an expected state bid by 6 strokes, junior Kait Asklund and freshman Alaina Bowie made it individually, finishing 13th and 22nd, respectively, in 1A.

The Villa Grove/Heritage co-op is up for renewal in the spring, but both districts want different things from the co-op moving forward.
Heritage Superintendent Tom Davis said his district would like the co-op to be a full co-op and include volleyball, common colors and a common mascot.
BLOOMINGTON — Varun Chopra knows a golf state championship can’t be won on the first day of the tournament. Tied for the lead through one round last year, the Urbana Uni High standout and Illinois commit finished second.
Why he was chosen: The Tigers senior had a round to remember at the Class 2A Bloomington Regional, carding a 75 at Prairie Vista Golf Course to win medalist honors.
